FMAE Signs MoU with Gravton Motors to Strengthen Indian Motorsports and E-Mobility Ecosystem

FMAE (Fraternity of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers), India’s premier motorsports and engineering event organiser, has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gravton Motors—an emerging leader in India’s electric vehicle sector— to collaborate on future motorsports events, with a focus on promoting electric mobility and cutting-edge engineering.

The MoU was formalised after FMAE’s visit to Gravton Motors, where the team experienced Gravton’s innovative product line. Gravton Motors, known for its indigenously designed powertrain and innovative EV technologies, stood out with products that offer a natural and exhilarating riding experience—perfectly suited for competitive motorsport applications.

With over 36 national motorsports competitions successfully completed and more than 25,000 engineering students engaged, FMAE has built an unmatched platform for aspiring engineers and riders to test their skills and innovations. This collaboration with Gravton Motors will further strengthen the Indian motorsports ecosystem by bringing e-mobility and sustainability to the forefront.

The FMAE (Fraternity of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers) Motorsports Championship has become India’s largest platform for engineering undergraduates and diploma students to showcase their talent in the automotive and motorsports sector. With events that include Go Kart, Formula, BAJA, Quad Bike, and Moto Student competitions, FMAE empowers students to design, build, and race vehicles that test their engineering skills. Since its inception in 2016, FMAE has grown into a major force in the motorsports community, hosting more than seven national and international events every year.

What is FMAE?

FMAE Events: A Detailed Overview

1. Formula Kart Design Challenge (FKDC)

Now in its 9th season, the Formula Kart Design Challenge (FKDC) is a flagship event that allows students to design, fabricate, and race Go Karts. Participants are judged based on their vehicle’s performance in various categories such as acceleration, handling, endurance, and overall engineering design. FKDC has been a cornerstone of FMAE’s success, attracting engineering talent from across the country.

2. Formula Competition – Season 5

FMAE’s Formula competition challenges students to design and manufacture single-seater, open-wheel racing cars. 3. BAJA Competition – Season 5

The BAJA competition tasks students with building off-road vehicles designed for rugged terrains. Now in its 5th season, BAJA emphasizes the importance of durability and performance. Teams are tested on their vehicles’ ability to handle harsh conditions like mud, rocks, and steep inclines. BAJA competitions provide invaluable experience for students interested in off-road vehicle design and testing.

4. Quad Bike Design Challenge (QBDC)

Now in its 9th season, the Quad Bike Design Challenge (QBDC) is one of FMAE’s most challenging events. FFS 2020

FMAE is proud to announce the launch of FFS India 2020. After the successful conduction of FFS India 2019 few amendments which will be beneficial for the teams and individuals have been made into the conduction of the event which are listed below

For FFS INDIA 2020 both electric and hybrid categories are introduced along with the existing combustion category. The event will be conducted on Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore in October 2022.

The event calendar is launched on the official website www.ffsindia.co.in The rulebook comprising of all technical and managerial rules along with the conduction regulations can be found under the download section.

The number of prize categories has been increased to 30.

The registration amount will be payable in two installments. Making it easier for the teams to register and make the amount payment. The total amount will be 69200, including all taxes (First installment 41,100, Second Installment 28,100)

The Organizing committee is also showing concern about student learning and quality of design and build of the car so there will be two official workshops from the organizers which will help the teams and participants to understand the design, analysis, manufacturing techniques, report preparations and about the event conduction.

Reviews will be given to the teams based on their submissions on all reports. Online sessions will be kept with the judges and organizing committee.

FFS 2019

The third season of FFS INDIA i.e., FFS INDIA 2019 was an extension of FFS INDIA 2018 organized by Fraternity of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers at Kari Motor Speedway and Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. The static activities of FFS INDIA 2019 were conducted at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. The association with Kumaraguru College of Technology was made to provide better infrastructure for the static activities and ease of access to event site for the participating teams.

The event as launched in October 2018 and got great response from different national and international teams. A total of 63 teams registered for the third season competing in the final event at Coimbatore. After completing the documents and report submissions, a total of 28 teams make it to the final event. Total 26 teams presented their cars at the final event where the teams had a great interaction with judges from different automotive companies and OEMs. The teams got all useful and valuable feedbacks from the judges and learned more about the optimizations they can do on their cars.

A total of 9 teams were able to clear the mechanical and electrical scrutiny and appeared for the brake test. Out of which only 4 teams were able to qualify the brake test. The endurance run was completed by only 2 teams. Based on the overall marks secured by the teams in various static and dynamic activities, Team Sakthi Racing from Kumaraguru College of Technology emerged as the overall winner of the third season of FFS INDIA and Formula Team Pegasus from PES’s Modern College of Engineering, Pune as overall runner up.

The Second season of FFS INDIA i.e., FFS INDIA 2018 was an extension of FFS INDIA 2017 organized by Fraternity of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers at Kari Motor Speedway and Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. The static activities of FFS INDIA 2018 were conducted at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. The association with Kumaraguru College of Technology was made to provide better infrastructure for the static activities and ease of access to event site for the participating teams.

The event as launched in October 2017 and got great response from different national and international teams. A total of 61 teams registered for the second season including one team from Bangladesh for competing in the final event at Coimbatore. After completing the documents and report submissions, a total of 36 teams make it to the final event. Total 24 teams presented their cars at the final event where the teams had a great interaction with judges from different automotive companies and OEMs. The teams got all useful and valuable feedbacks from the judges and learned more about the optimizations they can do on their cars.

A total of 14 teams were able to clear the mechanical and electrical scrutiny and appeared for the brake test. Out of which only 8 teams were able to qualify the brake test. The endurance run was completed by only 4 teams. Based on the overall marks secured by the teams in various static and dynamic activities, Team Screwdrivers from Dhole Patil College of Engineering emerged as the overall winner of the second season of FFS INDIA and Team Baagh from Knowledge institute of Technology as overall runner up.
